OGGI - Olympic Games Global Impact

Context
The Olympic Games Global Impact or OGGI project was mandated by the International Olympic Committee (CIO). The CIO placed emphasis on openly sharing all knowledge that could be accumulated about the Olympic Games (OG) and with this goal in mind, they organised a structured management of this information. A concept which is temporal in nature provides the basis for this process. 4 temporal phases were identified and they correspond to 4 reports which explain a specific characteristic of the Games :

>The candidature phase
>The preparation phase of the Games
>The celebration phase of the Games
>The post-Games phase, characterised by a final report

Goal
The OGGI project focused on the last phase. The thrust of this mandate consisted of determining as completely as possible the impact of the Games on the region of the organising city.

To fully address this impact, the procedure undertaken was based on the three areas of the long-term development, creation of a development and a environment, which will be viable for future generations :

>Economic domain
>Social domain
>Environmental domain.

Index of global Impact
These dimensions were also described in a functional way, so that the analysis became refined enough to obtain a set of precise indicators which were able to give a measure or an appreciation of the effects of the Olympic process. The impacts of the OG were thus divided according to the aforementioned distinctions, even if these 3 areas were overlapping and only a part of the impact could be observed from different points of view. Again the peculiar temporality of the OG came into play in the context of analysis enabling multiple comparisons between, for example, the expected effects described in the candidature report and the effects noticed during the preparation or the celebration of the OG. The application of the selection of indicators finalised this work and permitted the evaluation of the global impact of the OG.
