Who We Are

Founded in 2000 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the University of Geneva, the University of Lausanne, the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP), IMD Business School, the City of Lausanne, the Canton of Vaud, the University of Neuchâtel and the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland  Valais, the AISTS is a centre of education and research in sport.

The AISTS forms a unique network of multi-field expertise. Its mission is to develop and apply knowledge to the study of sports with a multi-disciplinary approach, incorporating the disciplines of management, economics, technology, medicine, biology, law, logistics, sociology, and ethics. The AISTS supports sport innovation, technology transfer and business development.

Vision

The International Academy of Sports Science and Technology aims to be a world leading centre of excellence for education and research, in sport by integrating sports science, sports business and sports technology.

The AISTS activities are built on the following three academic pillars:

Objectives

To design, develop, administer, and coordinate educational programmes in close partnership with academic and sport institutions.

To conduct research, studies and mandates, and provide consulting services at an international standard.

To raise funding for our founders to develop higher level research, education and innovation applied to sport.

To facilitate sport innovation and technology transfer

To interface between international sport federations and academic institutions.

To promote Lausanne and its areas as an international hub for sports institutions.

To meet the needs of our main clients: postgraduate students, sport governing bodies, academic institutions, sport marketing and consulting companies, athletes, teams and clubs.

Where To Find Us

The AISTS is based in Lausanne, the 'Olympic Capital', in Switzerland. Its main office is located on the EPFL Campus (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). The AISTS also has a branch in the House of International Sport (MSI) in Lausanne.

A Word From the AISTS Executive Director and the AISTS President

"In any sport, the score matters. It makes winners and losers, medals and money, joy and tears. Athletes and trainers focus on score; the next game is the most important thing in their minds.

Sports managers have different benchmarks. They are in charge of driving sports organisations, federations, marketing agencies, clubs or teams on the path to success. They have the responsibility to achieve sustainable development in all perspectives and building an environment where athletes and trainers can concentrate on their performance – and forget about the rest.

With this in mind, the founders of the AISTS, the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology, have decided to create a unique programme of interdisciplinary studies. Students are trained by world experts in the field of sports; after the programme, many go on to become true leaders in sports administration and build the reputation of the AISTS Master of Advanced Studies in Sport Administration and Technology."

Professor Jan-Anders Månson is a Vice President at the EPFL and is responsible for Innovation and Technology Transfer. Since 1990, he has been Director of the Laboratory of Composite and Polymer Technology. His research is oriented towards high performance composites for the aerospace, automotive and the sport & leisure industries.

Professor Månson is in charge of the innovation strategy initiatives at the EPFL, as well as projects on sports performance, such as: Alinghi (America’s Cup winner in 2003), Solar Impulse (solar powered flight) and the Sport & Rehabilitation Engineering programme.

His responsibilities also include the development of the Switzerland-Korea International Science and Technology Exchange and Collaboration (SKISTEC). Professor Månson commissioned the exhibition on “New Materials for Sport Success” at the Olympic Museum, exposed in Lausanne, Athens and Valencia (2007).
