Client: International Olympic Committee (IOC)
Project: Analysis of the current impact of Athletes’ Commissions on NOC and IF decision-making

This project aims to evaluate the influence of Athletes’ Commissions (AC) on the decision making of National Olympic Committees (NOC) and International Federations (IF), since the launch of the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission (IOC AC) Strategy. Sport today cannot be completely understood without considering its most important stakeholders. Athletes, as one of the main stakeholders in the Olympic Movement, need to have their voice heard in the decision-making process. This is a big challenge for IOC and presents the opportunity to analyse how athletes are represented within the Olympic Movement.


Client: International Basketball Federation (FIBA)
Project: Enhancing the FIBA Spectator Experience

FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, is the world governing body for basketball. Founded by eight nations in 1932, it now brings together 213 National Federations from all over the world.  FIBA organises and oversees international basketball competitions including the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and the Olympic Basketball Tournaments. FIBA is the only authority in basketball recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). FIBA is trying to enhance the experience of spectators at live events through the improvement and expansion of the range of initiatives presented. With this project, FIBA aims to benchmark spectator experience initiatives developed in other sports and entertainment industries and to understand the applicability of such initiatives within FIBA’s main competitions. The goal of this project is to revamp and even revolutionize the spectator entertainment program at live events by bringing more value to spectators and instilling in fans the want and desire to attend live games. A long-term goal of this research is to improve the live event experience of spectators as a means to have more fans regularly attending live games hosted by FIBA such as the World Cup, continental and youth championships.

Project: The economic, social and political effects of stadium development in Europe.

Stadium development is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders. Clubs view stadia as an essential element for revenue growth and economic sustainability. Many state and local officials see the construction or renovation of a stadium as an opportunity to revive the city, to drive economic development, and to improve social well-being. However, evidence to support the effectiveness of stadia varies considerably. This project will investigate the multifaceted effects of stadia and will provide empirical evidence of the socioeconomic and political impacts of stadia on cities and communities around Europe. 


Client: World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) 
Project: Developing a contemporary structure and strategy for the WDSF Communications Department

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) is going through significant changes by recently becoming the “umbrella organisation” for all DanceSport disciplines. Recent developments in technology, new actors in the sport industry and a new way of consuming sports constitute some of the factors that are transforming the communication approach adopted by International Federations (IFs). Changes in the process of producing, gathering and distributing content for internal and external communication affects how IFs’ Communications Departments are organised. This project will focus on investigating what would be the ideal model for a modern communications structure that meets the WDSF’s needs and operates within the existing configuration. The team will map the existing structure, design an ideal model based on benchmarking other IFs, provide recommendations and draft an implementation plan for the WDSF. 


Client: International Esports Federation (IESF)
Project: Tapping into the potential of Esports as an official sport

Esports has grown significantly in the past 10 years and is on its way to shape the future of sports in the coming years. The International Esports Federation (IESF) based in Busan, South Korea are undertaking conscientious efforts to accentuate the legitimacy of Esports within the ambit of the definition of ‘Sport’ and fortify its legitimacy as an International Sports Federation. The project team shall analyse &  conduct comparative studies of International Federations (IF’s), the existing structure of National Esports IESF member associations and based on such analysis provide the IESF recommendations to strengthen the governance of Esports and also to identify the most effective areas where both the IESF (Esports) and other IF’s (Traditional Sports) can potentially collaborate to create mutual beneficial synergies.


Client: International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)
Project: Income Determinants in Professional Athletics

The world of athletics has been perceived mainly as an “amateur” sports domain, where subsidies from federations, governments, and military institutions provide a large part of the livelihood of athletes competing at a high level in global competitions. The IAAF presently faces the necessity of reconsidering its current policies in order to attract and retain more professional athletes and ensure their long-term welfare. The IAAF would also like to attract more young talent to the sport. The objective of this project is to understand how athletes earn an income and obtain a clearer picture of the composition of the different revenues streams of professional track and field athletes. Rather than providing a comprehensive guide/manual on how athletes across the globe make a living from athletics, this project aims is a starting point for future research on this crucial topic for the future of athletics. This project is the first attempt at mapping the revenue streams of athletes across the varied disciplines of athletics.


Client: Formula E
Project: Engaging the Supply Chain to effectively meet Formula E’s common Sustainability Goals

Formula E is the world’s first all-electric single seater racing series. They are fighting climate change, by offering a solution to air quality in city centres. Delivering entertainment on four continents, they reach a broad audience in an innovative way, inspiring generations to adopt electric vehicles. The AISTS team will look and identify key actions to be taken by Formula E to make sure its sustainable commitments are known, applied and championed by its supply chain. The objective is to develop a strategic supply chain engagement plan to effectively meet Formula E’s common sustainability goals, so that all suppliers (relevant to event industry) can identify themselves and respect the sustainable development policy of the Formula E. 


Client: International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF)
Project: Developing strategies to improve the public image and recognition of Table Soccer as a sport through event improvement, and earning official recognition of National Federations in select, important countries.

The ITSF was founded in 2002 in Oberwart, Austria and is headquartered in Nantes, France. Its mission is to “… develop and promote different aspects of table soccer without discrimination of any kind, in close cooperation with its member federations.” There are currently 49 national table soccer federations, but only 2 are recognized by their respective national authorities, Italy and Switzerland. This project will first focus on earning national recognition for other National Federations by outlining strategies for specific, key countries. A second focus of the project will be improving the public image of Table Soccer through event and broadcasting improvement with the ultimate objective of assisting in worldwide recognition of table soccer.
